Trimming

Been a bit busy with other stuff last few months having got the car back road worthy again. But then was time to try and neaten it up and get this carpet set fitted.
Tools of the trade needed: some old medical scissors proved invaluable. Amazing how often old medical instruments proven themselves the best garage tools.

So because I decided I wanted the rear boot lining to be hardura rather than carpet I set myself a rather difficult task. How to cover the strengthening pieces in hardura. 7 Different curves in one piece....lots of heating, stretching, pinning and trimming needed. 2 days in the boot just for these 2 pieces! But well worth the end result.

However, I had made a little fubar..I forgot the DHMC hardtop that I will replace the other hardtop with uses the original mounting brackets, not the custom ones I had to make up previously. These need welding on.....inside my nice newly painted and trimmed tub. DOH!

Some MASC members provided some helpful measurements (although slightly different on my Wheeler and Davis body shell) and thankfully the other MK1 body shell still had its mounting brackets for reference. Not rusted off....yet

Trim all removed (gotta love hook and loop - rather than glued incase the carpets get wet) and then the car wrapped in as much non flammable stuff as possible.

Not the easiest welding but we got there! Few....rump...burns from a AWOL hot piece of weld...but otherwise no damage to the car. Result. Bit of neatening up with the dremmel and ready for some primer and seam sealer.

  1. Hi Talonaer, did you found more info on the maker/brand of your grandfathers hardtop?
Mine, despite being for later spridgets, seems to have similarities with yours and havent found any info on it either.

    Cheers, Arie
